A Southern Snowfall

"Snowflakes are kisses from heaven."  ~Author Unknown

Growing up in Arkansas meant that I never experienced "real" winters. Winter for me was two months of frigid mornings, cool afternoons, and cold evenings. Sure, we would get an occasional snowfall. School would be cancelled for a day and all the neighborhood kids would go crazy. We would make one foot tall snowmen (not enough snow for anything bigger), moms would make snow ice cream, and everyone would say "can you believe that snowstorm." Ha...if I had only known then what I know now.

I moved up North to DC in February of 2009 and was pleasantly surprised by the winter that year. Some snow here and there which was a nice change of pace, but nothing big. Anywho...some time passed and winter came again. Ohhhh did winter come again. Anyone remember "Snowpocalypse" or "Snowmageddon?"

Here are some photo's to jog your memory a bit...

Day one of snowfall

Insert 7 day Carribean Cruise!
If I remember correctly there was about 3 feet of snow in parts of the Nations capital. It was crazy. People were walking and skiing down the "Mall" and the city shut down for a little over a week. It's really too bad that hospitals don't close when everything else does! As I was busy sleeping at the hospital between shifts, my roommates were relaxing in the apartment, sipping on adult beverages, and enjoying their week off.
If I learned one thing while living through a true northern winter it's that I think I have seasonal depression. Seriously, I believe it!

A car right outside Georgetown University Hospital...insane!

Well...did I get off track or what! Where was I?

AHH...A Southern Snowfall.

Moving to the south I thought I had gotten away from wintery mixes and yucky slush that follows the beautiful snowstorms. Ha, no. Apparently winter followed me home. After just 48 hours in Hot Springs the snow started to fall. It snowed for about 9 hours and left behind  5 inches of beautiful, fluffy snow. It was really nice to wake up and know that I didn't have to make it to work! Also, my parents were off work for two days since the ENTIRE city of Hot Springs shut down due to "poor road conditions."

These pictures tell the story of what my parents and I did during our two snow days!

I hope that you all had as much fun in the snow as I did...and here is to many more snowy winters thanks to El Nino!

Photographs & Memories

“Always remember to slow down in life; live, breathe, and learn; take a look around you whenever you have time and never forget everything and every person that has the least place within your heart.”

Preface: This is a BIG post with BIG memories.

Change is Inevitable

"When you are through changing, you are through."  ~Bruce Barton

Life as I know it is about to change! My time in DC is coming to an end this weekend and with that I am preparing to start a whole new adventure with no end in sight. When I accepted the position at Georgetown University Hospital after TCU graduation I knew that I would be coming to DC for only two years. I had no idea what I would do after leaving, but I always knew that two years would be my commitment to the North. Now, two years later I am still happy with this decision and I am eager to see what's in store for me.

What's next? Unemployment! My mom laughs every time I tell her this, but its true. I loved college without the school part and I love the "real world" without the working part. So, first order of business is to take two months off! My plans are to enjoy home cooked meals, a fireplace, and the freedom of a car while living with my parents for two months. I also have travel plans (surprise surprise!).
  1. Fayetteville, Arkansas to celebrate my 25th with family and friends.
  2. Oklahoma City to get a glimpse of Ben's life.
  3. TEXAS! Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston to see friends and celebrate the marriage of some dear friends Lauren and Bryan.
  4. Nashville, Tennessee to explore a new city and visit an old friend.
  5. "Spring Break" with my family on the White River in Arkansas
  6. Texas for my best friend Emily's Bachelorette party!
I have been SO blessed over the past two years in DC. I've met some amazing people and made lifelong friendships, worked amongst a talented group of doctors and nurses, and traveled the world! I will miss the opportunities that are D.C. and know that after leaving I will finally realize how lucky I was.  Never again will I be able to go on an afternoon walk along the National Mall or spend the day at the National Harbor. I am going to miss so much about DC!

The Blog? I am excited about this blog and hope that you enjoy wasting your time exploring it. My plan for the blog is to share my adventures with you, both good and bad. Life is going to be a lot of "who knows" and "why nots" over the next year or so and I hope that this blog will help us keep track of it all. Bear with me as I have never been a good writer and am terrible at grammar, but who really cares right?

Next Post? Hopefully early next week after sending all my belongings with strange men and catching my one way home!
